News for Parents

Supplemental Educational Services (SES) can now be offered at Sandy Hill Elementary School for the 2011-2012 school year. This is due to the Maryland State Department of Education receiving a waiver that allows schools in year 1 of improvement to offer SES as well as School Choice. SES is free tutoring provided by private companies and is already offered at Maple Elementary and Hurlock Elementary.
Only students who attend Sandy Hill are eligible for SES, so parents who chose School Choice from Sandy Hill can decide to return to Sandy Hill. However, eligibility for the free tutoring is based on economic need and also the academic need of the child.
In September, parents of eligible students will receive a letter explaining the program. The public is invited to offer comment about the waiver or discuss SES by contacting the Title I Coordinator, Patricia Vickers, at 410-228-4747 Ext. 1003, or vickersp@dcpsmd.org.
